Changing the keychain pepper spray refill or Loading the Keychain Pepper Spray
How to load the refill for the keychain pepper spray is pretty straightforward. Overview You just yank out the bottom plug, push out the old can and push in the new and replace the plug.
There are some fine points.
Step 1: If the can is not entirely empty, put the firing tab in safe position (where it cannot be pushed down) and grab the keyring (attached to the bottom plug of the plastic holder) and yank it out of the holder. It should snap out with a sharp tug.
Step 2: Put the red safety tab in the firing position so it will fit down the keyway. Push the can from the top (avoiding the red part if there is any formula or pressure left in the can). You will need to push down on the black plastic parts of the top of the can. A screwdriver can be useful here. You just need to push it down about a half inch.
Step 3
The bottom of the can should be showing so you can just remove it from the plastic shell.
Step 4:
Put the red plastic tab in the firing position on the new can to install. Push the refill into the shell as far as it will go. The last quarter inch may require a good push.
Step 5
Now put the red tab in safety position.
Step 6
Align the bottom plug (with the keyring) so the square tab is in line with the keyway in the shell. Now push the plug until it snaps in place. Any misalignment will prevent the bottom from snapping into place.
That's it. Now just make sure the trigger moves like it should to allow safe transport and movement into firing position. A quick test spray, outdoors and downwind, of course, would be in order as well.
