Batteries: Use only new fully charged alkaline batteries with a name brand of Duracell or Eveready. Other brands, though they may make fine electronic products, usually have batteries mass produced and private labelled for them. These are cheap batteries that do not have the chemistry and performance to power a stun gun. Cheap or used batteries cause the majority of stun gun performance problems. Rechargeable batteries can be a good choice, however you must be aware that they lose their charge over time. The alkaline batteries from Duracell and Energizer have years of shelf life. Rechargeables require periodic charging to remain at full power. Ues an intelligent charger to avoid over-charging and damaging the batteries. Testing your Stun Gun: Make certain that no part of your hand or body is closer to the contact probes than the switch ( approx. 1 1/2"). Getting closer to the contact probes may result in your receiving a shock. When you press the switch, a charge will fire across the test probes and you will see a white arc of electricity and hear a buzzing or zapping sound (depending on the model). Fire a test charge of only 1/2 second duration. DO NOT fire the unit across the test probes for more than 1/2 second. Firing in a continuous blast for more than one second can damage the unit and void your warranty. The current has no place to go so it travels from one probe to the other and back into the internal circuitry. The stun gun will not be damaged by firing the charge into an assailant through the contact probes even if you fire continuous blasts. The load on the circuits is much less in stunning an attacker than it is in test firing. So, when testing, make your shots brief. Where to Stun someone: The most effective areas on the human body to target are between the neck and the hips. Where the neck and shoulder meets. Below the rib cage and The upper hip area. Not everyone reacts the same way. Some people may have some immunity to the shock, however most people will be strongly affected by the stun guns that output higer voltages. Cautions: Do not leave your stun gun in the car or outdoors for long periods of time. Extreme heat and cold will diminish the ouput of your batteries and may degrade the electronic components of the weapon. It is best to carry it with you and try to keep it at roughly room temperature to maximize its output. The use of stun guns for any purpose other than self-defense or law enforcement may constitute a crime under the law. The stun gun is not a firearm. Do not attempt to defend yourself against an armed attacker.
