Voice Alert System-6 is a patented wireless annunciator. It allows voice-recorded messages to identify activity for up to six monitored zones. Voice Alert uses wireless, passive infrared sensor/transmitters (PIR's) with an indoor receiver/speaker (Base Unit). A custom message, which you've recorded in your own voice for that specific zone, is played on the Base Unit. One of four "C" relays attached to the Base Unit can optionally be triggered (see example below). With its ability to secure up to six separate zones, each with its own customized recorded message in your own voice, Voice Alert is the most flexible system available. Residential Scenarios Zone 1 could be a driveway alarm and play back "Car coming up the driveway." Zone 2 could guard a side entrance against intruders. When this PIR detects movement the Base Unit could play back "Someone's on the patio" and trigger a floodlight using one of the four "C" relays included on the Base Unit. Zone 3 is used by the entrance to the backyard pool. When triggered, this Zone plays back "Kids are by the pool." Zone 4 might be used to detect movement in your prized garden. You could record "Is there a deer in the garden?" to be played when the sensor for this zone is triggered near your garden. System-6 can monitor all four zones simultaneously and still have two additional zones available (along with their own custom messages), if required. Commercial Examples Zone 1 could monitor a loading dock and play back "Delivery arriving" when triggered. Zone 2 could monitor a counter area or front desk. When triggered, this Zone might play back "Customer out front." Zone 3 could be used to monitor a restricted area in a store. When this PIR detects movement, the Base Unit plays back "Someone's in the storeroom," for example. The applications are endless. System-6 can monitor all three zones simultaneously and still have three additional zones available if needed. Users can place the wireless sensors wherever needed and alter their recorded messages at any time. Multiple base units may also be used to trigger alerts in two or more areas simultaneously. FAQ for Voice AlertIs the Sensor/Transmitter waterproof? The Sensor/Transmitters can be used indoors and outside. They are designed to withstand weather including rain and snow but are not designed to be submerged in water. When installed outside the Sensor/Transmitters do best when in a covered area and not in direct sunlight. How does the Sensor/Transmitter work? The Sensor/Transmitter is a passive infrared receiver (PIR). It detects movement by a change in background temperature and transmits a radio signal to the Receiver/Speaker that movement has been detected. You may find it helpful to review the How Voice Alert Works document. How far will the Sensor/Transmitter send a signal to the Receiver/Speaker? The Sensor/Transmitters will transmit a signal in an open area up to 1000 feet to the Receiver/Speaker. Through walls the Sensor/Transmitters will transmit a signal to the Receiver/Speaker up to 300 feet. How large of an area do the Sensor/Transmitters monitor? The Sensor/Transmitters come set from the factory with a downward fan pattern and are designed to monitor a 40-foot by 40-foot area when they are installed at 7 1/2 feet above the ground and there are no obstructions. Additional information on this topic can be found in Section IX of the Operating Instructions. How should I mount the Sensor/Transmitter if I want to detect vehicles coming up my driveway? For best results when installing to monitor vehicle activity, mount the sensor at 30 to 34 inches above the ground and angle it toward an oncoming car's radiator. Since the sensor uses infrared technology to detect activity, aiming the sensor to the hottest part of the car will insure maximum results. Will birds or dogs or cats trigger a false signal? The Sensor/Transmitters are designed to ignore small animals under 40 Lbs. To reduce the possibility for a false trigger caused by movement of a small animal it is recommended that the Sensor/Transmitters be mounted at a height of 7 1/2 feet above the ground. The lower the Sensor/Transmitters are mounted the greater the chance of picking up a small animal. Will tree branches trigger a false signal? It is possible for branches to cause a false trigger. The best location to install the Sensor/Transmitter in an area where tree branches and bushes will not be blown by a wind in the detection zone of the Sensor/Transmitters. How often will the Sensor/Transmitter send a signal? The Sensor/Transmitter has two modes for sensing movement and sending a signal. The (setup) mode that is set at the factory identifies all movement and transmits each detected movement to the Receiver/Speaker. The battery saver mode has an adjustable timer that will detect movement after the time delay setting and then transmit to the Receiver/Speaker. Will the system work through walls of my home? The system is designed to function through the interior walls of a home and exterior walls of a home. The Sensor/Transmitters have difficulty transmitting a signal through aluminum siding or metal surfaces and are best located on a window in that situation. How many Sensor/Transmitters will the system recognize? There is no limit to the number of Sensor/Transmitters that can be installed with a system. There are 6 voice messages (that you record in your own voice depending on application) that are available for the Sensor/Transmitters to activate. Is there a way to get more range between the Sensor/Transmitters and the Receiver/Speaker? Range from the furthest Sensor/Transmitter to the Receiver/Speaker can be improved significantly by using a Receiver/Speaker and a Transmitter as a repeater. The furthest Sensor/Transmitter sends a signal to a Receiver/Speaker and the "C" relay triggers another Transmitter to send its signal to a further Receiver/Speaker. This solution can be expanded indefinitely as long as there is power available at the site of the repeater station. Can a Sensor trigger more than one Receiver/Speaker (Base Unit)? Yes. A Sensor can be programmed to trigger recorded messages from one or more Receiver/Speakers (Base Units). For example, suppose you were a Retailer and placed 1 Sensor by the front door. When the Sensor is triggered, you could use one Receiver/Speaker to play a message such as "Welcome to my store. Let us know how we can help you." The same Sensor triggers a second Receiver/Speaker in the back office, notifying staff someone is in the store with the message "A customer is out front." See Secton VI in our Operating Instructions for the simple steps required to program a Sensor to a Receiver. Will the Sensor/Transmitter recognize a small child? The Sensor/Transmitter is intended to identify children of about 40 Lbs or larger when the Sensor/Transmitter is installed at a height of 7 1/2 feet above the ground. If it is desired to identify smaller children then the Sensor/Transmitter will need to be installed lower to the ground. When animals are present they may create a false trigger. Will the Sensor/Transmitter work in the dark? Yes, the Sensor/Transmitter will work in the dark or in full light. How long will the battery last in the Sensor/Transmitter? The battery in the Sensor/Transmitter can last up to 1 year depending on if the Sensor/Transmitter is set to battery saver mode. Temperature can also affect the life of any battery. Operating a battery at cold temperature will reduce its life. Could you explain, in simple terms, how the contacts on the bottom of the Receiver/Speaker work? How might they be used to trigger an external device? There are four C relays (aka terminal outputs) on the bottom of the VA-6000S Base Unit. When a Sensor is triggered, you have the option of also triggering an external device hooked up to one of these dry contacts. The four terminal outputs (labeled NO.1 -> NO.4) correlate to Zone #1 -> Zone #4. If you look at the contacts, you will notice that each Zone has three outputs. The one on the left is NO (normally open), the middle is a common ground, and the one on the right is NC (normally closed). Let's say you wanted to trigger a desk lamp (in addition to playing the voice message) when the Sensor for Zone #1 detects movement. You could create a simple splice in the plug wire for the desk lamp. One of the wires from this splice would be placed in the "middle" or common output of NO.1 on the bottom of the Base Unit. The other wire would go into the NO (open) or NC (closed) output directly to the left or right depending on the behavior you are after. Electrical circuits are always either open (OFF) or closed (ON). - If you plug the other wire into the NC (normally closed) contact, a triggering of the sensor forces the circuit open, breaking the circuit. In the desk lamp scenario, this would turn the lamp off. - If you plug the other wire into the NO (normally open) contact, a triggering of the sensor forces the contacts together, initiating a circuit. In the desk lamp scenario, this would turn the lamp on. In Section XII of the Operating Instructions we mention how you can program the length of the output duration. In the desk lamp example, turning the lamp on (or off) for 1, 5, 30, 60 seconds, or continuous. There are some restrictions as to the voltage / amps of the external device you are triggering. Also note that the terminal outputs do not power a device. The contacts simply open or close a circuit to the external device. Where can I get additional Sensor/Transmitters? Additional Sensor/Transmitters are available at the store where you bought your Voice Alert VA-6000S system. Individual Sensors are sold under the model number VA-6000T. Receiver/Speaker Records six separate user recorded voice messages, ~6.0 seconds each. Supports an unlimited number of Sensor/Transmitters. Volume Control knob allows you to set the message volume to suit your needs. Message playback buttons allow you to test each recorded message.
